Ithaca, N.Y. - Senior 157-pounder Ryan Hluschak took second place at the Cornell Body Bar Invitational while three other Drexel wrestlers placed in the top six in their weight classes. Drexel finished eighth among the 11 schools entered in the invitational.
Hluschak, the top-seed in the tournament, pinned Pitt's Adam Counterman in his first match then won by fall in his second round match against Sacred Heart's Tom Sullivan at 1:59. The senior defeated fourth-seeded Brian Letters of Maryland, 4-1. The championship bout pitted Hluschak against Cornell's Jordan Leen, a rematch of the championship final in the Bearcat Open on the previous weekend. Though Hluschak defeated Leen a week earlier, the Big Red wrestler exacted revenge with a 6-4 sudden victory triumph.
Third-seeded Steve Mytych opened his run with a victory over Pitt's Ryan Bosso, 12-3. The junior's second round match pitted Mytych against Maryland's Brendan Byrne. The sixth-seeded Byrne earned a 5-4 victory in the second tiebreaker that sent Mytych to the consolation bracket. Mytych reeled off a pair of wins in the consolation bracket and eventually lost to Byrne again in the fifth-place match. Also taking sixth place was 149-pounder, Kyle Bub. Bub defeated Nick Sanko of Ithaca in his opening match then won by medical forfeit over top-seed Adam Frey of Cornell. Bub lost in the championship semifinal match against fourth-seed Dana Gingerich of Buffalo and eventually claimed sixth place. Billy Haydt defeated John Pycraft of Kent State then lost to second-seeded Jake Donar of Wisconsin in a championship semifinal. Haydt would go on to earn sixth place.
